Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has dismissed claims that the Nigerian national team is overly reliant on striker Victor Osimhen. Osimhen’s return to the team after missing four games due to injury was marked by a brace in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Troost-Ekong emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that when the team plays well together, every individual shines. He highlighted the contributions of other players in the Rwanda game, including substitutes and players who featured out of position.
The captain stressed that the team’s mentality is not to rely on one player, but to work hard together and support each other to achieve more as a team.
