Security: NANS hails Interior Minister over proposed establishment of Paramilitary Academy

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is praising Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, for proposing the establishment of a paramilitary academy. This initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s security infrastructure through organized training and capacity-building. NANS believes this will cultivate a disciplined and well-trained workforce to address modern security concerns ¹.

The proposed academy will offer specialized training, similar to the Nigerian Defence Academy, ensuring graduates are equipped to manage paramilitary operations across various sectors. Admission will be through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with students undergoing an intensive four to five-year training program before deployment.

The Minister emphasized that the academy will prioritize sector-specific security strategies, tailoring measures to the unique needs of various sectors like power, water, education, and health. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will oversee the deployment of these specialized units across the country ¹.

NANS urges all stakeholders to support this initiative, which will not only enhance security operations but also create opportunities for skill acquisition, youth engagement, and national development.
