Muhammad Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has criticized the Federal Government’s reaction to his comments on President Bola Tinubu’s policies. Sanusi claimed his statement was sensationalized and taken out of context, emphasizing that he initially supported the government but now refuses to offer advice unless they “behave like friends.”
The controversy began when Sanusi stated he wouldn’t provide guidance on addressing economic challenges, citing the government’s unfriendly behavior. The Federal Government responded, saying they don’t need Sanusi’s approval on Tinubu’s policies, labeling his comments “deeply disappointing.”
Sanusi countered, arguing his comment was misrepresented and reduced to a single paragraph. He maintained that his speech actually contained nuanced support for the government’s reforms, acknowledging the sacrifices Nigerians face due to decades of economic mismanagement.
