The Special Committee on Restructuring of Federal Agencies and Commissions in the house of representatives held a pivotal meeting to streamline government agencies and parastatals.
Represented the chairman of the committee,the 9th Assembly Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon.Ahmed Idris Wase who is the current chairman house committee on federal character presided over the meeting which focused primarily to identify federal government agencies with overlapping responsibilities and explore potential mergers that would enhance operational efficiency and reduce redundancy.
In a statement by his media aide Faruk Tahir indicated that the meeting was held on Tuesday November 26, 2024 at the house representatives.
The meeting was well attended by representatives of several key agencies, including the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the National Senior Citizen Center, the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), among others.
While deliberating and evaluating the mandates of these agencies to determine if certain functions could be combined or incorporated into existing ministries or departments, Rt Hon Wase highlighted that the restructuring effort is not only about improving efficiency but also about reducing government expenditure, adding that by consolidating agencies with similar functions, the government can significantly cut administrative costs and reallocate resources to areas of greater need, saying the meeting aimed to establish a more coordinated government structure that eliminates waste and enhances service delivery.
The committee therefore resolved that, the outcome of the findings will be documented in a report for the House of Representatives to take further legislative actions.

Today, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Special Committee on Restructuring of Federal Agencies and Commissions. Stepping in for the absent Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka, Wase led a detailed discussion on the need to streamline government agencies.
