Police rescue 18 malnourished children in Onitsha, arrest 3 suspects involved in trafficking

The Anambra State Police Command has rescued 18 malnourished children suspected to be victims of trafficking in Onitsha. The children were found in two apartments in Inland Town, with 10 in one apartment and 8 in another.

The police arrested three suspects: Odinakachukwu Okorie, Ifunanya Ogbonna, and Daniel Ikebuilo, a fake medical doctor. Investigations revealed that Ifunanya Ogbonna had planned to sell a 5-year-old girl to Ikebuilo for ₦1,000,000. The suspects were caught before they could carry out their plan.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized the importance of community-police collaboration in combating child trafficking. The police are working with the Anambra State Government to provide medical attention and care to the rescued children.

The police have also called on parents who have lost their children to come forward for possible reunification.
