BREAKING: INEC receives petition seeking Senator Natasha’s recall

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially received a petition seeking the recall of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District. The petition, submitted on Monday, was received by INEC’s secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
Over 250,000 constituents signed the petition, surpassing the required 50% threshold of registered voters in the district. The petitioners cited loss of confidence in Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan due to alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office, evasion of due process, and deceitful behavior.
The petition invokes Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution and INEC’s regulations and guidelines for recall petitions. It also recalls that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was declared the winner of the February 25, 2023, Kogi Central Senatorial election by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on October 31, 2023.
INEC is currently deliberating on the petition, with the commission’s Assistant Director of Publicity confirming that a meeting is underway to discuss the Kogi recall process.
